Sometimes it seems like our appliances have a mind of their own, almost like they are possessed. It can be maddening. Sometimes it’s a malfunction that can be easily fixed. Other times it beyond human comprehension and requires the services of an exorcist.
Take the microwave oven, for example. You could cook the same type of food item twice at the same settings and for the same length of time, but one will come out just right, while the other turns to coal or comes out half raw.
You might even have the same problem with your oven. If you have this problem and it has been happening for a while, give us a call and we can do a quick diagnosis.
Refrigerators can also be rather unpredictable. Sometime the food seems too cold, while other times it comes out tepid. However, this phenomenon is more easily explained.
Often people will put warn items like leftovers in the fridge to cool it down. After all, that’s what a refrigerator is supposed to do. (side note: Why does the word fridge have a “D” in it, while the word refrigerator does not?)
What some people don’t realize is that while the refrigerator is cooling the warm item, the heat from the item is warming the inside of the refrigerator.
Most modern refrigerators have an auto defrost cycle. When it activates, the entire inside of your fridge will warm temporarily. This is common.
Another common problem with refrigerators is as they get older, they have to work harder. Every time you open the door, cold air escapes and the refrigerator has to cool it down again. If it’s beginning to wear out, it may not have enough strength left to overcome it.
The only way to know for sure is to have a qualified repair service test it out.
These problems are not exclusive to microwaves and refrigerators. Other appliances can become unpredictable over time. More often than not, if there is a malfunction, the repairs are simple and inexpensive.
So, before you replace it, you might be able to save yourself a lot of time and money by having it repaired.
