LG and Whirlpool each will roll out a model that incorporates heat-pump technology that condenses water out of the laundry and into a tank rather than venting the water as steam, as conventional dryers do. Heat pump technology can save up to 60% compared to traditional dryers.

Dryers are among the least efficient household appliances and have changed little since 1990. That is all about to change.

The LG 9kg Eco Hybrid Condenser Dryer retails for around $2749 and is already available in stores, as well as from LG’s website (http://www.lg.com/au/clothes-dryers/lg-TD-C901H). Customer reviews seem to be running about 50/50 between good and bad. Like all new technology, there are apparently still a few bugs to work out.
